Winter Wedding Magic: Deep Burgundy Floral Designs with Cymbidium Orchids, Hellebores, and More
As a Canberra wedding florist, I’m always thrilled to dive into the beauty and charm of each season, especially winter weddings as its one season Canberra takes very seriously. This past fortnight, I had the privilege of creating breathtaking bouquets and floral arrangements for two stunning winter weddings over consecutive weekends. Both celebrations embraced a deep burgundy and moody colour palette, perfect for the season, and featured a rich selection of winter blooms. Here’s a glimpse into these elegant affairs.
Wedding 1: Madeline & Fraser
Held at the enchanting Ginninderry Homestead in North Canberra on Saturday 3 August 2024, this wedding was perfectly on theme with the beautiful Winter gardens at the homestead adorned with burgundy hellebores (it was mean't to be).
The couple chose a deep burgundy and moody colour scheme with a touch of blush pink, which created a sophisticated and romantic atmosphere.
Floral Arrangements:
-
Bridal Bouquet: The bride’s bouquet was a showstopper and although petite, it featured a seasonal combination of cymbidium orchids, hellebores, and calla lilies. Blush pink 'Quicksand' roses were interspersed, adding a touch of classic romance. The bouquet was wrapped in burgundy satin ribbon, tying the arrangement together beautifully
-
Reception: The reception was stunning and complimented with wintery centrepieces that echoed the same deep burgundy palette and included snapdragons, local lisianthus, cymbidium orchids and hellebores, setting a luxurious tone for the evening.
Wedding 2: Carley & Chris
The following weekend took us to Lake George Winery for another enchanting winter celebration on Saturday 10 August 2024.
This wedding also embraced a deep burgundy theme, but with a unique twist (grapes, and lots of them). The mood was both romantic and moody, creating an intimate and elegant setting.
Floral Arrangements:
-
Bridal Bouquet: The bride’s bouquet here was designed with a slightly different arrangement of cymbidium orchids and hellebores. We added native foliage and 'after dark' greenery and a few additional blush pink roses for a slightly different look, ensuring it was as unique as the couple.
- Ceremony Decorations: For the ceremony, we focused on creating a dramatic backdrop with lush floral arrangements which were positioned on the winery's very own wine barrels. The combination of dramatic large foliage, snapdragons, along with strategically placed wintery blooms added to the overall grandeur of the setting. Placed along the aisle and on the altar was single deep red and blush pink rose stems complimented with 'en masse' grapes which created a warm and inviting ambiance to the dark cellar.
- Reception: At the reception we repurposed all the ceremony flowers and grapes and styled them on the cocktail tables and seating areas creating a cohesive and stylish look that complemented the wedding’s overall theme.
